Missoula WWTP Biogas Use Feasibility Study
The City of Missoula, in its continued quest to meet the goals outlined in the City of Missoula Conservation and Climate Action Plan, hired Morrison-Maierle to study the predicted outcome of adding cogeneration equipment to the Missoula Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The study resulted in a recommendation to construct a cogeneration system that would generate electricity and useful thermal energy for the plant from the biogas that is produced as part of the solids stabilization process at the WWTP.
Recommendations for implementation, construction timelines, and projected costs were detailed in Morrison-Maierle’s study to aid the city as it plans to meet the carbon emission reduction goals outlined in the city’s Climate Action Plan. As a result, the City of Missoula has begun to budget for a new system that will be constructed in 2015-2016.
