Awards: 2007 Award of Excellence for Community Park Design from the Bozeman Beautification BoardSonoran Institute Building from the Best in the Northern Rockies Best Practices Award

Centered primarily in Bozeman, Montana, design team members Morrison-Maierle, Intrinsik Architecture, Confluence Consulting, Vaughn Environmental, and Peaks to Plains Design live and work in the community where their projects are located, creating a special sense of pride in the work they do. The close-knit design team used smart growth ideals to lay out and design Valley West Planned Unit Development to be efficient and sustainable for this long term, neo-traditional neighborhood. Features include three lakes, multiple streams, wetland boardwalks, open spaces, and parks, with over 4 miles of walking and bicycling trails and a public bus stop kiosk.

Morrison-Maierle began conceptual work on this mixed-use development in the early 1990s. From the project’s inception, The Aspen Group took a slow, steady approach, thinking through major decisions and systematically communicating with regulatory agencies and the community. Morrison-Maierle and the design team helped create a higher density, more compact sustainable community development with sidewalks, narrower streets, and alleys.

The team balanced infrastructure needs with the need for pedestrian circulation and community recreation, creating a well designed, safe, and sustainable community.
