Morrison-Maierle receives five engineering excellence awards
The Montana Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) awarded Morrison-Maierle with five 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards. This included awards for projects in the surveying and mapping technology; studies, research and consulting; environmental; building/technology; and water resources categories.
Missoula Airport Terminal Expansion Remote Sensing Services
The Missoula Airport Terminal Expansion Remote Sensing Services project received the Surveying and Mapping Technology Honor Award. This project provided the airport design and construction team with the data they needed to complete their phased terminal expansion project. The survey team provided information in a format that increased the efficiency of the overall planning, design, and construction process.
Mill Flotation Improvements Value Engineering Study
In the Studies, Research, and Consulting category, Morrison-Maierle received top honors for the Value Engineering Study for the Mill Flotation Improvements at Round Mountain Mine. Morrison-Maierle performed engineering/3D modeling for structural, process, civil, electrical, and HVAC on this project. As a result of this study, Round Mountain was able to save $5,733,530 compared to initial design figures provided by a previous quote.
Oregon Creek Stream Restoration
Morrison-Maierle designed a solution for the Oregon Creek Stream Restoration project to win the Environmental Honor Award. This project, designed for the Big Hole Watershed Committee, used an advanced technique to create 1,400 lineal feet of new stream channel and four acres of new floodplain. As a result, it also reduced sedimentation/siltation and increased floodplain connectivity and water storage while restoring natural channel migration settings. Native beaver and aquatic life habitat have also improved thanks to this project.
Ravalli Electric Co-Op
The Ravalli Electric Co-Op project was awarded the Building/Technology Systems Honor Award. This new 19,400 square-foot facility includes mixed-use office space, community meeting areas, warehouses, vehicle garage and services, and several supply storage areas. Morrison-Maierle provided energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering designs.
City of Billings Fox Pump Station
Finally, in the Water Resources Honor Award category, Morrison-Maierle received top honors for the Fox Pump Station for the City of Billings. This closed-loop, four pump station system can handle demand variations from summer to winter while fixing a long-standing problem of premature impeller deterioration. The project can also meet current demands without an expensive reservoir solution but has the flexibility to add one at a later date if needed.
