Morrison-Maierle receives 2024 ACEC-Montana Grand Project Award and Three Engineering Excellence Awards
ACEC-Montana awarded Morrison-Maierle three Engineering Excellence Awards this year, including the Grand Project Award.
The Engineering Excellence Awards are an annual celebration of engineering excellence, honoring projects in Montana that demonstrate innovation, creative problem-solving, and engineering’s unique ability to improve the world.
Missoula Airport Terminal
The Missoula Airport terminal project received the ACEC-Montana Grand Project Award.
For this project, the Missoula County Airport Authority hired Morrison-Maierle, along with Martel Construction, to design and build their new terminal building. Key highlights included a phased alternative delivery approach, sustainable design and features, a heavy emphasis on ADA accessibility, improved security, and streamlined operations and maintenance. As a result of our unique teaming approach, the entire team (airport, architect, contractor, and engineer) was closely aligned throughout the project process. This allowed us to complete the project on time and $1.5M under our planned budget.
Kinross Round Mountain Nevada Mill Flotation Expansion
The Kinross Round Mountain Nevada Mill Flotation Expansion Project was awarded the Industrial and Manufacturing Processes and Facilities category win.
Round Mountain Gold Corporation wanted to add flotation capacity to increase gold recovery in the mill. To help with this, Morrison-Maierle designed an expansion of an existing scavenger flotation circuit at the Round Mountain Mine. This included providing civil, structural, mechanical process, mechanical HVAC, and electrical engineering services to deliver issue-for-construction drawings and technical specifications. With strategic design choices, including eliminating the pre-engineered metal building that enveloped the expansion, we saved our client $1.5M.
Bozeman-Yellowstone Airport Inline Baggage System
Finally, the Bozeman-Yellowstone Airport Inline Baggage System Project received the Honor Award in the Building/Technology Systems category.
The Gallatin Airport Authority hired Morrison-Maierle to assist with the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Inline Baggage System project. The project included designing a modern baggage screening system with three explosive detection units and nine outbound baggage sortation belts that can treat oversized ski gear as regular luggage. With a modern and upgraded system, the Bozeman Airport hopes to better serve the multitude of travelers on their way to attractions in and around the Gallatin Valley.
Scott Murphy, Morrison-Maierle President and CEO, said of our award-winning projects, “Congratulations to the award-winning project teams for continuing to deliver superior quality and technical excellence. We couldn’t be prouder of this achievement and the achievements of all our employee-owner colleagues.”
