Montana Tech HPER Renovation/Addition

Montana Tech HPER Renovation/Addition

Award Winner: 2014 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Montana (ACEC MT), Building Technology Systems Category

Funded by an initiative and fee increase (both student-driven efforts), the HPER complex underwent a $3.6 million renovation and addition. The expansion included an upgraded cardio-fitness area and weight-room, improvements in the locker rooms, and energy improvements to portions of the building’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire alarm/suppression, and lighting systems.

The challenge this project provided Morrison-Maierle engineers, Montana Tech and their selected design team, led by ThinkOne Architecture, was to find innovative ways to add more space, improve existing spaces, and improve structural, mechanical and electrical portions of the existing building systems under the constraints of a tight budget.
