The City of Bullhead City, Arizona, had a non-functioning headworks process that resulted in maintenance and operation challenges in downstream equipment and processes. The lack of a reliable screening system caused operators and maintenance personnel to constantly wonder what was going to fail next at the plant. Bullhead City partnered with Morrison-Maierle for planning, design and construction administration services for upgrades to the Section 10 WWTP Headworks.

The project consisted of an influent lift station incorporating screw centrifugal pumps, a state-of-the-art screening facility that incorporated 2mm perforated drum screen technology, maximizing the function of each unit process to reduce the overall footprint and capital cost, designing an outdoor screening collection and storage system, and providing full odor control for all of the headworks components. The result is a headworks facility that exceeded staff expectations and positions the City of Bullhead City for future growth.
