Hauser Dam Survey

Hauser Dam Survey NorthWestern Energy’s Hauser Dam is a hydroelectric facility on the Missouri River 14 miles northeast of Helena. This original steel spillway was under construction starting in 1905 and completed in 1907. A year later, it failed. A second, 700-foot long and 80-foot high concrete spillway reopened in 1911 and is still in existence today. The project required Morrison-Maierle to replace the old horizontally-designed turbine with a new vertically-designed version in the power house that was built in the early 1900s. In order to design a space for the new vertical turbine, the team tried to use the 1900-era drawings, which had toRead More →

Client & Owner Montana Department of Resources and Conservation The Problem Mineral County has older floodplain maps that lacked the detail that a hydraulic analysis would provide. The Solution Our team of floodplain engineers and spatial mapping technicians worked together to analyze the flooding sources of the Clark Fork River and its tributaries. We performed a hydraulic analysis and associated floodplain mapping as part of the larger Mineral County floodplain mapping project. This data is the basis for flood insurance rate maps and is a county-wide project administered by the state and federal governments. The Benefit Mineral County administration, in cooperation with DNRC and FEMA,Read More →

Montana-Alberta Tie-Line The Montana Alberta Tie Line (MATL) is a 214-mile (345-kilometer), 230-Kilovolt transmission line that interconnects the electricity markets of Alberta and Montana. It is the first power transmission line between Alberta and Montana, and the largest transmission line project in Montana in the past 20 years. The MATL runs from a substation outside of Lethbridge, Alberta to one near Great Falls, Montana. It allows much-needed energy fl ow in both directions, ensuring more reliable supplies of electricity which will make both Montanans and Albertans less vulnerable to power outages. The MATL will enable the development of new wind-energy projects by linking this renewable and emission-free source of power to consumers across NorthRead More →
